Conservation Corner

HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEW
CONSERVATION CORNER BULLETIN BOARD ?

The GLP Conservation Commission recently installed their own bulletin board in the lobby of the Casino.  It’s on the right wall just as you enter.   Placement of the bulletin board was approved by the GLPA Board in December.  Bob Ten Eyck customized the board with a driftwood boarder. (Can you see the whale at the top?)
The Conservation Commission plans to use this space to reach out to our community with items of interest.   The display will be periodically changed.  The first display highlights the GLP Butterfly Garden that was started by the late Dave Nickolenko, a long-time member of the Conservation Commission.    There is a picture on the bulletin board of the dedication event that was held last fall.  There are also pictures of the prolific milkweed and the monarch caterpillars and butterflies from last summer.

The GLP Butterfly Garden has been certified by MonarchWatch.org as a “Monarch Waystation.”   The monarch migration is truly one of the world’s natural wonders.  Monarch Waystations are places that provide milkweed necessary for monarchs to produce successive generations and sustain their migration.  We will be planting additional milkweed species in the GLP Butterfly Garden this year.

Check out the new Conservation Corner bulletin board the next time you get your mail.
